What’s Your 2014 Color This Spring?

FCR_SPR2014_Home_Banner_Img

Every year,  Pantone surveys the designers of New York  Fashion Week and beyond to bring you the season’s most important color trends and that’s how the institute determined spring 2014′s hottest colors. This spring 2014 palette gives us soft pastels coupled with vivid brights to create a colorful equilibrium. The colors are inspired by blooming flowers, travels abroad and strong, confident women, designers use color to refresh, revive and defy conventional wisdom.

My choice of colors this season are: Violet Tulip, a romantic, vintage purple, evokes wistful nostalgia and Hemlock, a summery, ornamental green, that provides a decorative touch which can be paired with any of the pastels with a boulder hue, but I chose, Violet Tulip.

So, what is going to be your color for the spring?

I will be giving my color inspirations as usual beginning the first of March. Check back!

Pantone 2014 Color Of The Year

Patone, the world’s color authority, has declared Radiant Orchid the color of 2014. Labeled a “captivating, magical, enigmatic purple,” Radiant Orchid builds on last year’s symbolic emerald renewal. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Carlstadt-based Pantone Color Institute. “An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

The Color of the Year selection process is given thoughtful consideration annually. “To arrive at the selection each year, our color experts at the Pantone Color Institute quite literally comb the world looking for new color influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films that are in production, traveling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations and other socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact color, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention,” Eiseman said. “So while there are many colors in the running, we felt very strongly about this choice.”

“At one point in time, Radiant Orchid would have been considered strictly feminine as women have more typically used it in fashion and cosmetics. However, in recent years, we have seen more usage of this color for men in sportswear, and even in sports equipment like ski and snowboards,” Eiseman explained. “It has a history in men’s ties, striping’s in shirts and such. And now we are seeing it in high end suede loafers (Magnanni) and even in sneakers by Converse.”

Pantone is working with Keurig to develop a Radiant Orchid coffee brewer that will be available in Spring 2014.

Pantone and Valspar Paint, a leader in the paint industry, added Radiant Orchid, the 2014 Color of the Year, to the Pantone Universe Paint Collection by Valspar available exclusively at Lowe’s stores nationwide now.

Pantone is teaming up with Sephora for a collection that with be available in March 2014 for a limited time.

Radiant Orchid permeated the runways during the spring 2014 fashion shows and is already making its way onto the red carpet. Fashion designers featured in the PANTONE Fashion Color Report Spring 2014, including Emerson by Jackie Fraser-Swan, Juicy Couture and Yoana Baraschi, are incorporating Radiant Orchid into their spring collections and variations of this hue will carry into men’s and women’s clothing and accessories throughout next year.

Ludicrously Expensive Starbucks Gift Cards Sell Out in Seconds

Originally posted on Business & Money:

Correction appended, Dec. 6, 2013.

A limited-edition line of rose gold-colored, all-metal Starbucks gift cards sold out in seconds this year, despite the steep $450 price tag.

After the sale for the cards went live at noon Friday on Gilt.com, the site’s hits per minute beat those of Cyber Monday by almost 2.5 times, CNBC reports. Only 1,000 cards were available. Within 30 minutes, more than 11,000 people had tried to get on a wait-list for the card. Some who nabbed the even more exclusive golden cards are already re-selling them on eBay for as much as $1,675.00.

The fancy cards come preloaded with $400 plus the perks of the Starbucks gold program (gift on your birthday, free refills on certain items, etc.) Starbucks pulled the same gambit last year with Gilt.com, though they offered 5,000 cards, not 1,000. The cards sold out six minutes. So it’s an even happier holiday…
